The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to raise the profile of profit protection at FOCUS. You will achieve this by effectively managing all aspects of security within store and being proactive in the enhancement of company profitability through recommendations on risks to the business.

The Duties

Reporting into the Profit Protection Manager you will be responsible for protecting company profit by conducting effective targeted reviews to identify and minimise cash loos, stock loss and crime. The role also includes:

Establishing and maintaining effective working partnerships with all stores within a defined region, providing appropriate support in the implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures.

Investigating stock loss, cash loss and local crime incidents.

Auditing and reporting on the store physical security environment.

Ensuring that product protection is in place to agreed framework standards.

Escalating incidents of serious crime or loss and maintaining weekly contact with the Profit Protection Manager to highlight key issues and report on progress against agreed actions.

Positively communicating profit protection strategy at store, region and divisional level to encourage a strong profit protection culture, thereby reducing the likelihood of internal/external theft.

Ensuring proactive and reactive measures are in place and being used effectively to manage crime and loss.

Being flexible, with the ability to travel to suit the needs of the business and may include overnight stays.

The Person

You will be a results-oriented, resilient and tactful individual with the ability to influence and engage at all levels. With the ability to build effective team relationships you will ideally have had previous experience within a similar role. Experience of crime and loss investigations within a retail environment is desirable.

Job role

-To support the business in the protection of profit and operational excellence, through the implementation of continuous improvement programmes. To train management and staff to promote best practice and consistency, ensuring the business values are promoted and adopted throughout Matalan Retail Ltd and subsidiary Companies.
-To support the on-going Stocktaking programme with a view to maiximising efficiencies, reducing costs and to ensure accuracy of stockfile.

Key Responsibilities

- Implement ‘Back to Basic’ reviews and guidelines for store management teams, including a training programme and prioritisation of role to high risk stores.
- Perform unannounced CI visits in accordance to planned schedules utilising the ‘Continuous Improvement Model’. Using the risk models prioritise store CI visits based on red, amber and green concept. Carry out follow up audit visits in accordance with process and to include follow up of self assessments.
- Provide guidance and support to stores in preparation of Stocktake and provide the financial reconciliation the day after the Stocktake incorporating cut off accuracy, reconciling adjustments, issuing recounts, investigating reasons for large discrepancies.
- Utilise data mining tools to identify fraudulent activities and poor practice
Support the CI Manager to carry out a full review of current ‘Store’ process and procedures challenging and re-engineering where appropriate ensuring that they underpin current strategies.

Skills/ Qualification/ Experience Required

-A minimum of 5 years experience within a similar role within retail
-Good communication skills both written and verbally
-Advanced level of Microsoft Excel skills
-In-depth knowledge of store processes and procedures
-The abilitiy to work within a team of CI Professionals.

Purpose of the Role:

Managing, developing and the ability to motivate people are key to this role. Is this an area of excellence for you?

Working with the Regional Risk Director you will provide senior level support in a vital area of the business ensuring that all areas are performing to their maximum potential. Utilising the resources of the Risk South team you will identify the key loss and potential loss areas and develop corrective actions.

In putting in place solutions you must develop systems and techniques that are understood by all stakeholders including the management team. You will play a pivotal part in enforcing your ideas ensuring that any failure to respond and take on board the enhancements is dealt with firmly and effectively.

If you have the specialist background in Loss Reduction and are able to demonstrate experience in managing people effectively then this may be the role for you.

The Tasks:

People and systems are in place to protect the businesses assets and those of their clients. On occasions where this is failing or requires attention your role will be to bring swift resolution. The ability to identify, understand, act and respond are some of the areas you will need to be experienced in to be able to:

Analyse loss history to identify trends
Identify process and control weaknesses that could result in loss
Project manage loss reduction teams made up of personnel from across the Risk South team
To work closely with external stakeholders in order to reduce loss
To deputise for the Regional Risk Director (South) in their absence
Identifying and communicating best practice
Identifying opportunities for risk reduction or process improvement
Develop and maintain key relationships with external bodies and G4S Cash Services (UK) Ltd personnel

The Skills:

Whilst you will be able to display, as a minimum, experience in the specific skills associated with the area of loss reduction your man management and development skills are a must. You must be able to provide evidence of your expertise in the following:
